HOME
A quilted story of Lindsay Mann, 1990-2012
Planned, pieced, assembled and embellished with love by your Mom, your “Auntie” Marj Powley, and your Grandma Katy Nelson. It was machine quilted by Carolyn at the Quilter’s Stash in Windsor, CO.
Mom and Marj did the fabric selections, piecing (sewing together the bits to make a square), and the assembly. Marj did all the machine embroidery (look for bushes and trees and loons) and appliqués. Grandma did the flower and bird hand embroidery, and painted the drawing of Fairview High School so we could put it on fabric and put it in the square. Mom did a few more embellishments.
The working title for this quilt was “The House that Built Me.” Like the song, the quilt tells the story of the many of the places and people that “built” the smart, sassy, loving, wonderful Lindsay. It started with a list of all the houses Lindsay lived in. Yikes.
But it’s really not about houses, but about HOME. Home is where you get to grow, and learn, and make mistakes, and celebrate all your successes, and figure out who you are. Sometimes it’s a house, sometimes not. Sometimes it’s where you lived, sometimes not. Home always includes family, but family can be many things: parents, steps, grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins, friends, neighbors, teachers, other people’s parents… all the people in your life that really care about you. Home is just another word for Love.
